Tremors Ripple Across Northeast India: Sikkim, West Bengal, Manipur Hit by Mild Earthquakes

Three mild earthquakes were recorded across Northeast India on Friday. Gangtok in Sikkim experienced a 2.8 magnitude quake, followed by a 2.6 magnitude tremor in West Bengal's Kalimpong and a 3.3 magnitude quake in Manipur's Tengnoupal. The quakes were reported at varying depths by the National Centre for Seismology.

On Friday, a series of mild earthquakes shook the northeastern region of India, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). Sikkim's Gangtok experienced the first tremor, registering a magnitude of 2.8 on the Richter scale at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Subsequently, another mild earthquake with a magnitude of 2.6 struck Kalimpong, located in West Bengal, soon after midnight. The NCS confirmed that this event took place at a shallow depth of five kilometers.

The region wasn't done shaking yet; Manipur's Tengnoupal was also affected by a 3.3 magnitude quake post-midnight, detected at a deeper 65 kilometers beneath the surface. The NCS continues to monitor these seismic activities closely.
