Amid growing tensions between India and the United States, Congress MP Imran Masood has called for a robust response from the Indian government following President Donald Trump's announcement of increased tariffs on Indian goods over its imports of Russian oil.
Masood openly questioned the fairness of the US stance during an interview, emphasizing that other nations like America and Britain also purchase oil and are not subject to similar threats. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stand firm against what he deemed as unfair pressure tactics.
The controversy arose after President Trump expressed his intent to raise tariffs, accusing India of profiting from Russian oil amid the Ukraine conflict. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has labeled these threats as unjustified, citing that its import patterns are driven by market demands and energy security needs following global supply diversification.
