Swift Evacuation Efforts Underway in Flood-Hit Uttarakashi

The Uttarakhand government has evacuated 566 people from flood-stricken areas in Uttarkashi, with 300 more evacuations in progress. The Indian Army, utilizing advanced technology, is leading rescue efforts. Key infrastructure restoration projects are also advancing to reconnect the region, severely affected by the deluge.

The Uttarakhand government announced Friday that 566 people have been evacuated from the disaster-affected areas of Dharali and Harsil in Uttarkashi district. Massive flash floods have wreaked havoc, prompting ongoing efforts to rescue nearly 300 more stranded individuals.

The Indian Army, deploying dog squads, drones, and ground-penetrating radar, is spearheading the search and rescue operations. Director General of Police (DGP) Deepam Seth personally visited Uttarkashi to monitor the progress of relief actions.

After arriving at Matli helipad, DGP Seth proceeded to Harshil and reviewed the rescue initiatives in a meeting with police officers. He issued directives to expedite the operations further. Concurrently, construction of a makeshift Valley Bridge on the Gangotri National Highway is on track after the collapse of Limcha Gad bridge near Gangnani previously blocked access. Restoration efforts are ongoing to reopen key roads in Harsil and Dharali. Earlier, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted a high-level meeting to assess the rescue and relief strategies in place.
