India Boosts Affordable LPG Access with Massive Budget Allocation

The Indian cabinet has approved a substantial budget to ensure affordable cooking gas for millions. This includes a specific allocation aimed at providing subsidised LPG connections to women in poor households, showcasing the government's drive to improve energy accessibility and gender empowerment through economic means.

The Indian government has greenlit a major financial initiative aimed at widening access to affordable cooking gas for households across the nation. The approved budget of 300 billion rupees ($3.42 billion) seeks to ensure broader availability of liquefied petroleum gas, according to Information Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

In addition to the general subsidy, the administration has earmarked 120.6 billion rupees ($1.38 billion) specifically to assist nearly 100 million impoverished households, with a particular focus on empowering women through subsidised LPG connections, thus addressing both energy and gender disparity issues.

These efforts underscore the government's commitment to enhancing energy accessibility while fostering economic inclusion and empowerment for women in lower-income brackets.
