The Chandigarh-Manali National Highway lies blocked as heavy rains unleash a series of landslides and flash floods across Himachal Pradesh. The ongoing monsoon fury has resulted in widespread destruction of public utilities and claimed hundreds of lives, highlighting the region's vulnerability during this season.

According to the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA), as of August 17, 352 roads, including three national highways, remain obstructed. Additionally, 1,067 power distribution transformers and 116 water supply schemes are disrupted. Since June 20, monsoon-related incidents have resulted in 263 deaths, with 136 attributed to landslides and flash floods.

Efforts to restore normalcy are being undertaken with urgency, though persistent landslides and inclement weather slow progress, particularly in districts like Mandi, Kullu, and Lahaul-Spiti. The HPSDMA emphasizes the ongoing challenges as visibility and road conditions continue to pose risks amid this precarious situation.
