On Tuesday, the Rouse Avenue court engaged in a critical hearing involving former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, where her legal counsel contended against allegations of corruption related to land transactions. It was asserted that Devi lawfully purchased the land, making the argument that such transactions, when involving payment, do not constitute a crime, and no preferential treatment was given to any accused individuals. The case finds Special Judge Vishal Gogne meticulously listening to the defense presented for Rabri Devi.
Senior advocate Maninder Singh ardently argued that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) needs to substantiate claims of corruption. He emphasized that the land was bought with due monetary consideration, and further discussions will ensue on Wednesday. Singh further elaborated on two specific transactions, noting that payments were made for each sale deed, including Rs 13 lakh through a cheque, countering the allegations that jobs were exchanged for land.
Throughout the hearing, Singh challenged the CBI's evidence by highlighting that if their accusations held, numerous appointments should be nullified. Querying about 950 application claims, Singh questioned alleged bypassing of due procedures. He maintained that the accused persons' actions were independent, legal, and unconnected, firmly refuting charges of favoritism purported by the CBI against Lalu Yadav and family, which the court continues to assess amid ongoing legal scrutiny.
