On Friday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to X to express her pride in the development of Kolkata's metro system as Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled new services in the city. Despite her absence from the ceremony, Banerjee emphasized her role in planning and executing the metro expansion.
Banerjee nostalgically recalled her tenure as India's Railways Minister, where she played a pivotal role in planning metro corridors across Kolkata, ensuring comprehensive connectivity in the city. Her efforts were instrumental in connecting crucial areas like Joka, Garia, and the Airport with an intra-city metro network.
Meanwhile, PM Modi inaugurated several metro sections, including a service linking Noapara to Jai Hind Bimanbandar, aimed at improving airport access. The Prime Minister also announced enhancements between Sealdah and Esplanade, reducing travel time, and linking Beleghata and the IT hub, boosting connectivity for daily commuters.
