The Maharashtra government is poised to enhance its agricultural landscape by establishing a fully automated cashew processing facility in Konkan. Drawing inspiration from Vietnam's model, the project aims to boost the state's economy by enhancing the entire agri-business network.
At a meeting in Pune, State Marketing Minister Jaykumar Raval highlighted the significance of the Maharashtra Agribusiness Network (MAGNET) project, which is partially supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He announced new initiatives to improve storage and processing facilities for cashew farmers, including the creation of large-scale warehouses capable of storing up to 5,000 metric tonnes of produce, with government subsidies covering 50% of the costs.
Plans also include the use of cutting-edge technology for Phase II of the MAGNET project, aiming to increase rural incomes and ensure competitive pricing for local produce globally. The initiative underscores the need for private investment in the horticulture value chain and prioritizes reducing post-harvest losses through expanded cold storage capacity and modernized processing techniques.
