Supreme Court Postpones Hearing for Delhi Riot Conspiracy Accused

The Supreme Court has adjourned until September 22 the hearings for bail pleas of Sharjeel Imam, Umar Khalid, Gulfisha Fatima, and Meeran Haider, who are accused in the Delhi riots conspiracy case.

The group is contesting the Delhi High Court's earlier decision to deny them bail. These legal challenges arise from charges filed under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), concerning the alleged conspiracy behind the 2020 north-east Delhi riots.

Delhi Police maintains the view that the riots were pre-planned with malicious intent, attributing a significant role to the accused, citing inflammatory speeches as evidence of their involvement. The unrest, connected to protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens, resulted in 53 fatalities and hundreds of injuries.
