Power Restoration Efforts Underway in Northern Ukraine Amid Russian Strikes

Emergency crews took significant steps in restoring power across northern Ukraine after Russian attacks disrupted the grid, as announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko late Thursday. On the Telegram messaging app, Svyrydenko confirmed that electricity has been fully restored in two impacted zones within the Sumy region.

In the neighboring Chernihiv region, where Russian strikes on Wednesday left over 300,000 people without power, restoration efforts are ongoing. In the northern town of Slavutych, located near the decommissioned Chornobyl plant, critical sites are back online, and crews aim to restore power to the remainder of the town shortly.

A drone attack on Slavutych briefly severed power to the Chornobyl plant for three hours, affecting the containment vessel designed to prevent radiation leaks. This incident reignites memories of the 1986 Chornobyl disaster, recognized as the worst civil nuclear event in history.
