The Meteorological Department urges caution as it anticipates extremely heavy rainfall in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday and Wednesday. Fishermen are advised against venturing into the sea from October 21st to 25th, as per B Amudha, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai.
Triggered by an upper cyclonic circulation over the South Andaman Sea, a low-pressure area emerged over the southwest Bay of Bengal, potentially escalating into a depression near the Tamil Nadu and South Andhra coast by October 22nd, 2025, Amudha explained, extending concerns to a height of up to 5.8 km above sea level.
In light of ongoing heavy rainfall, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin held video discussions to assess the state's readiness for the northeast monsoon. Precautionary measures have been enforced, with government agencies and representatives actively involved in addressing acute public concerns and ensuring uninterrupted rice distribution operations.
