Northeast Monsoon Leaves Tamil Nadu Farmland Flooded, Prompts Government Action

Tamil Nadu has experienced significant flooding due to the ongoing northeast monsoon, affecting 16,000 hectares of farmland. In Tamil Nadu, heavy rains from the northeast monsoon have inundated 16,000 hectares of farmland, as reported by state Minister MRK Panneerselvam. He assured that compensation would be issued in areas where more than 33% of crop damage has occurred, underscoring the government's commitment to supporting affected farmers.

Minister Panneerselvam criticized the previous AIADMK administration, led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, for poor paddy storage practices. He claims that under Chief Minister MK Stalin, the state has enhanced paddy procurement and built additional storage facilities. In contrast to the previous government, the current regime procures up to 1,000 paddy sacks, illustrating a commitment to bolstering agricultural infrastructure.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin highlighted the ongoing monsoon's impact during a review meeting, noting that Chennai and surrounding districts are experiencing continuous rainfall. With the MeT Department forecasting continued heavy rains, preparations are underway to manage potential challenges and ensure farmer support persists amid intensifying weather conditions.
