BJP Leader Criticizes Opponents as Election Commission Launches Special Revision

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President, Sukanta Majumdar, took a jab at critics objecting to the Election Commission's initiative to conduct the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, set to begin imminently. Addressing reporters, Majumdar highlighted that SIR has been implemented previously, questioning detractors on their opposition.

Announced by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, the Election Commission of India will oversee SIR across 12 States and Union Territories, including West Bengal. The finalized voter list is expected on February 7, 2026. The initiative covers regions such as Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal.

Preparatory activities, including printing and training, will occur from October 28 to November 3. The Enumeration Phase proceeds from November to December 4, with Draft Electoral Rolls published on December 9. The review period spans December 9 to January 8, 2026, followed by hearings and verification from December 9 to January 31, 2026. As per Supreme Court directives, Aadhaar has been included among the indicative documents for this process.
