Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sanctioned the release of Rs 20 crore as the second installment of the Central share of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to Nagaland for the fiscal year 2025-26. This comes as part of efforts to aid those affected by extreme weather conditions, according to a statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

The release pointed out that this fiscal year, the central government has disbursed substantial sums under various disaster funds: Rs 15,554 crore to 27 states under SDRF, Rs 2,267.44 crore to 15 states under NDRF, Rs 4,571.30 crore from the State Disaster Mitigation Fund to 21 states, and Rs 372.09 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund to nine states. The government has also provided logistical support, including National Disaster Response Force, Army, and Air Force deployments to flood-affected regions, highlighting a maximum deployment of 199 NDRF teams across 30 States/UTs this monsoon.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah has expressed satisfaction over the surrender of 21 Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district. The Home Minister, referring to the event as a move to bring peace, reiterated the commitment to ending Naxalism by March 2026 and urged more to surrender their arms. According to Bastar Inspector General P Sundarraj, the surrender included four Division Committee Members among the 21 cadres, illustrating a shift towards stability in the region.
