The U.S. Coast Guard is tackling an oil discharge incident near Galveston, Texas, following a vessel's collision with a pier on Tuesday. Initial reports indicate the discharge involved fuel oil near Pier 32 at the Port of Galveston.
Responding teams have secured the source of the spill, and authorities have closed the Galveston Ship Channel from Gulf Copper to Pelican Island Bridge to limit environmental damage. The response is a collaborative effort between the Coast Guard, Texas General Land Office, and Forestwave Navigation BV.
Although the volume of the spill is still being investigated, there have been no reported injuries or harm to local wildlife as investigations continue.
