Rekindling History: Kerala Foundation Day Honors VP Menon's Legacy

Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar highlighted the contributions of VP Menon in unifying India during the state's 69th Foundation Day. Celebrations included cultural events, emphasizing the need for collective nation-building. Despite minor controversies, the event celebrated Kerala's guiding influence in national development.

Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar emphasized on Saturday the integral role that VP Menon, a native of Kerala, played alongside Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the accession of princely states to the Indian Union. This historic acknowledgment was made during the 69th Foundation Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan.

Addressing the attendees, the Governor recounted Menon's efforts in engaging with the Maharajas, guiding them towards a unified national vision. The Kerala Piravi observance included a symbolic lamp-lighting ritual before an idol of Bharat Mata, draped in saffron, underscoring the day's significance.

Governor Arlekar urged active participation in nation-building, stressing that citizens must not remain passive in the country's progress. He praised Kerala for contributing to the nation's vision, values, and cultural direction, affirming that the state's development is crucial for India's advancement.

Controversy arose when Education Minister V Sivankutty boycotted the event due to the installation of the Bharat Mata idol, however, it was reinstated after a brief removal. The festivities concluded with cultural performances by Kerala Kalamandalam students and Raj Bhavan staff, marking the occasion's grandeur.
