The state of Meghalaya, in an effort to cement its place on the global organic map, inaugurated the first Northeast India Organic Week. The event, which began on Friday, saw delegations and buyers from 13 countries come together to enhance trade and innovation in organic agriculture.

Collaborating with APEDA, the Union Commerce Ministry, and IFOAM-Organics Asia, the event drew international interest, marking Meghalaya and the region as a growing node in global organic trade. Participants hailed from Malaysia, Taiwan, Mongolia, Indonesia, and New Zealand, among others.

At the event's inauguration, APEDA general manager Dr. Saswati Bose and Meghalaya Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Vijay Kumar D highlighted the potential and recent achievements of the state in the organic sector, emphasizing efforts like the newly established ginger processing unit and aims to expand certified organic agriculture by 2028.
