In the remote hilly region of Kalakote, Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, residents are witnessing a profound transformation with the introduction of basic facilities, thanks to various Centrally Sponsored Schemes. The once isolated residents now recount a time of hardships due to the absence of essential services. However, development initiatives have begun to reshape their reality.

The implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) has provided families, like that of beneficiary Babli Devi, with durable housing, replacing their previous mud houses. 'We faced many problems earlier, but now, water and financial assistance for farmers reach us, along with homes for many,' she expressed. The move from temporary structures to permanent homes has significantly elevated living standards.

Employment opportunities under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) further complement these housing projects, as noted by Gram Rozgar Sevak, Parveen Singh. Sing ambitiously detailed ongoing and completed projects, emphasized the dedication to revitalizing Kalakote through schemes like PM-KISAN, pension benefits, and rural development programs, heralding a new era of improved lifestyles for farmers and laborers.
