Ukraine's southern city of Odesa and its surrounding areas plunged into darkness on Saturday after a substantial overnight assault on the nation's power grid by Russian forces.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy revealed that the attack consisted of over 450 drone strikes and 30 missiles, focusing heavily on the energy infrastructure in the south and Odesa region, leaving thousands without power.

According to Ukraine's power grid operator, the southern regions of Odesa and Mykolaiv, as well as the government-controlled part of Kherson, faced a significant number of outages, with the entire frontline Kherson region cut off from electricity.
