Congress MP Karti Chidambaram has approached the Delhi High Court to contest the charges of conspiracy and corruption framed against him in the ongoing Chinese Visa scam case. The petition, now before Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, will undergo its first hearing on January 19.
The allegations against Chidambaram stem from an alleged scheme involving the renewal of visas for Chinese officials. Charges were initially framed by the Rouse Avenue court on December 23. The court cited violations under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act and has also implicated others, including CA Bhaskar Raman. Notably, one individual, Chetan Shrivastava, was discharged from the case.
The petition challenges the trial court's findings, asserting the alleged conspiracy was orchestrated by the approver, Vikas Makharia, who exploited visa provisions for personal gain before turning on other accused. Furthermore, it claims no public servants were influenced, contradicting prosecution claims.
