In a statement on Monday, Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling reassured citizens that the Nipah virus has not been detected in the state, urging residents to remain calm. Speaking to ANI, Mahaling emphasized that, while no cases have surfaced, the government is maintaining vigilance, particularly in districts near West Bengal.

The Health Minister assured that the state is fully equipped to handle any potential Nipah virus cases. "We are ready to take action if any case arises," Mahaling stated. Consultations have been held with health officials, and there is continuous communication with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to ensure preparedness.

As part of preventive measures, the state government is actively monitoring the situation, ensuring residents stay informed. The Nipah virus, primarily zoonotic, poses a significant threat with a high mortality rate, making timely intervention crucial. Meanwhile, reports of suspected cases in West Bengal have prompted a coordinated response at the national level.
