Nestle Expands Infant Formula Recall Amid New EU Safety Standards

On Wednesday, Nestle announced an expanded recall of its infant formula products, including the Guigoz brand in France and SMA in the UK. This decision comes in response to the European Union's adoption of new analytical methods to detect cereulide toxin levels in products.

The cereulide toxin, which can induce nausea and vomiting, was found in ingredients sourced from a supplier in China, affecting multiple infant formula manufacturers like Nestle, Danone, and Lactalis. As a precaution, recalls have been initiated in numerous countries, causing increased concern among parents globally.

Despite analysts' predictions of no further recalls, Nestle has acted swiftly, adhering to its internal standards, which are stricter than the new European Food Standards Agency's guidelines. The recall primarily affects European, Asian, and American markets, with no new countries being added.
