India Hosts First Global AI Summit in Global South

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, has touched down in Amravati, Andhra Pradesh, ahead of his attendance at the AI-India Impact Summit in Delhi. Gates is among the illustrious global leaders scheduled to participate in the summit, running from February 16 to 20, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the event at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
Prime Minister Modi has extended a warm welcome to international delegates and underscored India's remarkable strides in science and technology. In a statement on X, he expressed pride over the diverse international presence at the summit, highlighting India's rapid progress and significant contributions to global scientific and technological advancements.
The India AI Impact Expo 2026, poised for inauguration by Modi at Bharat Mandapam, will convene a distinguished assembly of presidents, prime ministers, crown princes, and eminent figures from Silicon Valley and beyond. As the first global AI summit hosted in the Global South, the event promises to showcase AI's vast potential across governance, innovation, and sustainable development.
Nvidia Executive Vice President Jay Puri, participating in the summit, noted the onset of a new industrial era spearheaded by AI. In a video shared by the Indian Embassy in the US, Puri lauded India's pivotal role, citing its vast developer ecosystem and startup landscape as key assets. The summit is a platform for collaboration, poised to drive economic growth and societal impact through AI advancements.
Running from February 16 to 20, the AI-India Impact Summit will underline New Delhi's quest to foster an inclusive, responsible, and impactful AI future, reflecting India's bold aspirations for sovereign AI.
