Indian Railways has stepped up its efforts to ensure smooth and hassle-free travel for passengers during the Holi festive season by introducing special trains and implementing stringent crowd management measures. Railway authorities announced on Tuesday that a series of initiatives, including the operation of special trains and vigilant monitoring at major stations, aim to enhance passenger experience, particularly in areas like Delhi.
The strategic deployment involves comprehensive arrangements such as special trains across various zones to accommodate the surge in homebound travelers. Additional measures include systematic queue management and phased boarding at key stations, backed by a vigilant presence of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel and Rail Karmayogis. Their responsibilities include assisting elderly and differently-abled passengers and ensuring that safety and guidance are maintained throughout the journeys.
Moreover, the presence of Civil Defence volunteers boosts crowd control efforts in busy areas. As part of coordinated measures by North Western Railway, around 295 special train trips were announced, targeting destinations like Gorakhpur, Mysuru, and Tirupati. The railway's commitment to service excellence during peak travel times is further highlighted by the extension of existing train services and the enhancement of regular trains with additional coaches to meet the high demand.
In addition, thorough crowd management systems were deployed to organize passenger flow efficiently at crucial junctions. Holding areas were established, and RPF personnel, alongside ticket checking staff, played a critical role in maintaining security and order. Diverse channels, including help desks and electronic boards, continuously provided train information, while campaigns encouraged the use of automated ticket vending machines and the RailOne App. Continuous monitoring by senior officials ensured punctuality and seamless operations at major hubs.
At Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, effective queue management and close RPF supervision bolstered passenger safety. Similar vigilance and coordination were evident at stations like Mathura Junction and Prayagraj Junction, ensuring smooth boarding and regulated movement. Particularly, new services like the Darbhanga Holi Special offered passengers comfort and convenience during the festive rush.
Around 55-60 Civil Defence volunteers were deployed in Delhi and neighboring stations to sustain organized operations until early March. Across the board, from enhanced facilities to information dissemination, Indian Railways demonstrated its commitment to safe and reliable travel, underscoring its dedication to operational excellence.
