A parliamentary panel report highlighted the importance of strengthening portal infrastructure and data validation to achieve PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana's goal of installing rooftop solar systems in one crore households. Launched in February 2024, the scheme envisions an annual saving of Rs 75,000 crore by 2027.
During the last two years, 23.29 lakh solar installations were completed against a target of 61 lakh, with 80% of allocated funds spent. The report stressed the necessity for power distribution companies' involvement to meet targets and called for enhancements in portal infrastructure.
The report also emphasized potential in small hydro projects, particularly in the north-east, and called for adherence to government guidelines in the development of green energy corridors. Initial challenges in the National Green Hydrogen Mission were noted, stressing the need for close monitoring and timely implementation of projects.
