In a significant political development ahead of the Assam assembly elections, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale, has expressed confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party's prospects. Athawale's optimism follows the resignation of Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi, who has defected to the BJP, citing internal conflicts within the Congress party.

Bordoloi's move is seen as a considerable blow to Congress, particularly as it occurs in the presence of prominent BJP figures such as Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP president Dilip Saikia. Their collective appearance underscores the BJP's strategic positioning ahead of the single-phase assembly election scheduled for April 9.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders have attributed Bordoloi's departure to a lack of internal democracy in Congress. Deepak Prakash and Arun Govil have highlighted the Congress's alleged misalignments with democratic principles, further bolstering the BJP narrative amid unfolding political tensions in Assam.
