A team of the Election Commission's Flying Squad apprehended a vehicle carrying Rs 25 lakh in cash near the ECO Park Police Station in Kolkata, West Bengal, officials reported on Friday. The seizure occurred during routine election monitoring and enforcement operations.

The operation identified a man named Thakor Suraji Abhesang traveling in suspicious circumstances. A detailed search of the vehicle uncovered the substantial cash amount, prompting further investigations.

This seizure coincides with preparations for the forthcoming West Bengal assembly election, set in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with results expected on May 4. Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, and Bharatiya Janata Party are the primary contenders in the state's political arena.
