India's Renewable Surge: Doubling Green Power in 2025

India's renewable energy production set a new record in 2025, doubling from 2022 to 98 TWh. Solar power was the main contributor, growing by 53 TWh. Despite the rise in renewables, coal remains dominant, generating 71% of India's electricity, although its share is declining.

India's renewable energy generation achieved a significant milestone in 2025, with output reaching 98 terawatt-hours (TWh), twice the amount recorded in 2022, as per a recent report.

The report from Ember, an energy think tank, highlights that solar and wind energy spearheaded this growth, with increases of 53 TWh and 22 TWh respectively.

However, coal continues to be a major player, accounting for 71% of India's electricity, despite a notable decrease of 44 TWh in coal generation due to expanding renewable sources.
