The increase surpasses the previous highest demand of 250 GW, recorded in May 2024, and indicates a trend of rising power usage to combat escalating temperatures. Domestic and commercial sectors alike are contributing to this surge as they rely more on electrical appliances to endure the heat.

Experts warn that electricity consumption is poised to rise further, as the Indian Meteorological Department predicts continuing heatwave conditions, particularly affecting northwest, central, and eastern India until the weekend. With harsh summers anticipated, the demand is expected to peak in May and June.
