Nepal-India Discuss Energy Between Himalayas

Nepal's new Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha held talks with India's Ambassador Naveen Srivastava in Kathmandu, centering on crucial energy cooperation between the two nations. The discussions, held on Friday, revolved around deepening bilateral ties and mutual interests in energy and water resources.

With the Balendra Shah-led Rastriya Swatantra Party's recent electoral victory, Shrestha emphasized his commitment to reinforcing this vital partnership through ongoing dialogue. The meeting underscored the shared vision of advancing sustainable development and regional connectivity, promising enhanced cooperation and synergy for the prosperity of both nations.

The discussions also highlighted recent agreements, including a landmark deal for Nepal to export 10,000 MW of power to India. This followed an MoU on renewable energy cooperation and the inauguration of cross-border transmission lines during Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's visit in January. The partnership is poised to tackle regional energy challenges effectively.
