India Soars to New Heights with Wind Energy Milestone

India's wind energy generation has surpassed 56 gigawatts, marking a significant achievement in renewable energy. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of clean energy for India's future. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi noted India's record capacity addition and emphasized the sector's potential and its role in stabilizing the energy system.

India has reached a pivotal milestone in its renewable energy journey, with wind energy generation soaring past 56 gigawatts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced this achievement during his 'Mann Ki Baat' radio address, underscoring the critical role of clean energy in the nation's development and future security.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, elaborated on the country's remarkable year in wind energy capacity addition. He disclosed that 6.1 gigawatts were added during 2025-26, marking India's best year ever. Currently, India holds the fourth position globally in wind energy, boasting over 56.1 gigawatts of installed capacity, with 28 gigawatts more in progress.

Joshi highlighted the sector's untapped potential, estimating a 1,164 gigawatts capacity at a 150 meters hub height. He expressed optimism about reaching 100 gigawatts by 2030 and 156 gigawatts by 2036, contributing substantially to India's net-zero goals by 2070. Wind energy also plays a crucial role in stabilizing the energy grid, particularly during peak demand hours.
