The Vande Bharat Express service on the Jammu-Srinagar route has expanded from an 8-coach to a 20-coach train, responding to strong passenger demand. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the expansion was driven by continued full-capacity usage and infrastructure improvements at Jammu station.
Vaishnaw highlighted the transformation brought about by the new rail link. Passengers experience local cuisines on board, while the movement of goods such as apples, cherries, and dry fruits has eased significantly, benefiting regional industries. Plans are underway for further enhancements, including high-tech signalling and route extensions.
Future developments include expanding the network to border towns and preserving local apple orchards. In a significant boost, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved capacity enhancements, including the four-lining of the Delhi-Ambala section. This infrastructure boost is expected to further integrate Jammu and Kashmir with the national mainstream.
