In a stark warning about the evolving nature of modern warfare, India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh referenced Israel's "Operation Grim Beepers" to underscore the potential for everyday devices to be weaponized. Speaking at the North Tech Symposium in Prayagraj, Singh highlighted the rapid transformation in conflict methodology, flagging the emergence of unconventional tools as weapons.
Singh illustrated this by pointing to recent international developments such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which saw a shift from traditional warfare to employing drones and sensors. He warned that seemingly benign civilian items could now serve as deadly weapons, citing the pager blasts in Lebanon and Syria orchestrated by Israeli forces. "Everything can be weaponized," Singh stated, emphasizing India's need for heightened vigilance and preparedness.
The Israeli operation, known as "Operation Grim Beepers", involved coordinated blasts of pagers used by Hezbollah operatives, resulting in numerous casualties. This development has triggered a global reassessment of warfare strategies. Singh spoke during the opening of the "Raksha Triveni Sangam" event, focusing on the convergence of technology, industry, and military capabilities, which features participation from hundreds of companies showcasing defence innovations.
