Israel has approved a major purchase of F-35 and F-15IA aircraft to boost its military strength in a multi-billion dollar deal. The acquisition is aimed at maintaining Israel's strategic air superiority, reinforcing its defense force capability amidst regional security challenges.
Israel has finalized the approval for acquiring two advanced combat squadrons from Lockheed Martin and Boeing, a move estimated to cost tens of billions of dollars, according to the Israeli defense ministry on Sunday.
The purchase, integral to a larger 350 billion shekel defense strategy, aims to fortify Israel’s security readiness and maintain air superiority in a potentially tumultuous decade. Ministry Director General Amir Baram emphasized present and future military strategy.
The acquisition highlights the enduring significance of U.S.-Israeli defense cooperation and advanced aerial combat capabilities as observed in recent conflicts with Iran. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz underscored the importance of the air force in national defense.
