Maharashtra's Ladki Bahin Scheme: E-KYC Hurdles Delay Assistance
The Maharashtra government faces delays in releasing financial aid under the Ladki Bahin scheme due to extended e-KYC deadlines. Misclassification issues affected over 24 lakh beneficiaries, with 20 lakh cases verified as genuine. The scheme, vital for political gains, contributes to the state's financial liability.

The Maharashtra government's delay in disbursing financial aid under the Ladki Bahin scheme has led to mounting worries as instalments for March and April remain unpaid. Mandatory e-KYC deadlines expired on April 30 while verification of misclassified cases continues.
Officials predict beneficiary accounts will stabilize at approximately 1.80 crore, yet earlier classification errors, including the misinterpretation of a Marathi question, wrongly categorized over 24 lakh beneficiaries as ineligible.
With around 20 lakh accounts verified as genuine, the state aims to soon resolve pending cases. Launched before the 2024 elections, the scheme offers Rs 1,500 in monthly financial support to women, proving instrumental in government electoral success despite increasing fiscal challenges.
