The government of Uttar Pradesh has restructured its electricity billing process, converting prepaid smart meters to a postpaid system, as per directions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The revised billing system will mirror the previous postpaid cycle, aiming to enhance consumer convenience and streamline payment procedures.
Energy Minister A K Sharma, post-review meeting, revealed that consumers will receive monthly bills through SMS and WhatsApp, with a 15-day payment period. This initiative, benefiting a vast number of consumers, enables billing from the month's start to end, deliverable by the 10th of each month, ensuring improved consumer service.
Consumers can report billing issues via WhatsApp chatbots or the 1912 portal. Additionally, special camps will address outstanding dues and billing grievances. Division-level camps will further aid consumers between May and June, securing uninterrupted power supply and timely transformer repairs across regions.
