Ukrainian Drone Strikes: Kirishi Refinery Halted
Ukrainian drone attacks have targeted and damaged the Kirishi oil refinery in Russia, halting its operations. The attacks affected three of four crude distillation units, essential for refinery operations. The refinery, a major diesel supplier, impacts Russia's oil refining volume and its $3 trillion war economy.
The Kirishi refinery, Russia's second-largest, has been forced to cease processing following a series of Ukrainian drone attacks that have damaged three of its crude distillation units, as reported by industry sources on Tuesday.
Located 800 km from the Ukrainian border, Kirishi has become a focal point in the recent surge of long-range drone warfare targeting vital Russian infrastructure. Leningrad Governor, Alexander Drozdenko, confirmed the targeting and reported a fire within the industrial zone.
The refinery's closure disrupts operations responsible for about 7% of Russia's oil refining volumes, underscoring the strategic impact of Ukraine's defense. Control of the facility belongs to Surgutneftegaz, which has yet to comment on the current situation or the potential timeline for repairs.
