In a significant political shift, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) headed by actor-turned-politician Vijay, has become the single largest party in Tamil Nadu's state Assembly elections. TVK secured 108 seats in the elections, outmaneuvering the long-standing Dravidian heavyweights, DMK and AIADMK.
Amidst this political upheaval, TVK chief Vijay met with Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar, presenting a formal claim to form the new government. This follows Congress's declaration of support for TVK, which, coupled with potential backing from AIADMK's 47 seats, could see TVK bridge the gap to the halfway mark required for governance.
While DMK's Saravanan Annadurai criticized Congress's shift in allegiance, calling it shortsighted, TVK's unprecedented success signals a fresh era in Tamil Nadu's political landscape, challenging the decades-old DMK-AIADMK dominance.
