Uttar Pradesh's identity transformation goes beyond a simple administrative change. Once known for rampant lawlessness and mafia control, the state has shifted its focus under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's leadership. Speaking at the CII Annual Business Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Adityanath highlighted this journey from a 'One District, One Mafia' era to 'One District, One Product,' a flagship program initiated in 2018 aimed at promoting local crafts and industries.
Recalling the dark times when organized crime ruled, Adityanath cited an incident where a Chief Justice’s convoy was halted for a mafia don. Such scenarios highlighted the influence of crime over constitutional authority. 'Significant reforms have enabled us to change perceptions about Uttar Pradesh,' Adityanath stated, noting the state's improved image and functioning.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the nation's growth, Adityanath emphasized the role of technology in empowering marginalized communities. Through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, middlemen are bypassed, ensuring funds reach beneficiaries directly, enhancing accountability, and shielding citizens from corruption. These digital advancements have significantly impacted the state's economic landscape.
Adityanath also highlighted the state's rise in 'Ease of Doing Business' rankings, moving from the 13th or 14th position to the top. The change has attracted about 7,000 industries, including those from states like Bengal, to establish roots in Uttar Pradesh, showcasing increased industrial confidence.
Commenting on economic development, Adityanath stressed that regions ignoring industrial growth face poverty, whereas embracing industrialist partnerships leads to job creation and prosperity. Acknowledging the day's historical significance, he touched on the 'punar pratishtha' of Somnath Jyotirlinga and India’s nuclear demonstration, conveying strength combined with compassion.
