Empowerment of Women Committee 2026-27: A New Era of Gender Equality
The Empowerment of Women Committee for 2026-27, led by BJP's D Purandeswari, has been established to address women's welfare and development. Consisting of 30 MPs from both parliamentary houses, the committee aims to transcend party lines and foster gender equality and women's empowerment.

In a significant move toward advancing gender equality, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has announced the formation of the Empowerment of Women Committee for 2026-27, effective from April 21, 2026. Senior BJP leader and MP, D Purandeswari, will helm the committee as its Chairperson.
This newly formed committee comprises several prominent women Members of Parliament from both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Among the representatives from the Lok Sabha are Hema Malini, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, and Mahima Kumari Mewar. From the Rajya Sabha, notable members include Sagarika Ghose, Swati Maliwal, and Sudha Murty.
Tasked with a focus on issues related to women's welfare, empowerment, and development, the committee traces its origins back to April 29, 1997, when it was first constituted during the 11th Lok Sabha. The committee consists of 30 members annually nominated by both Houses of Parliament and is committed to transcending party affiliations for the cause of women's empowerment.
