A Rapido cab driver has been arrested for allegedly masturbating in the presence of a woman passenger in a moving cab in Gurugram, police said on Friday.
The driver was identified as Vijay Kumar (23), a resident of Banihari village in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj district. Police have seized the cab and are questioning him. He will be produced before a court on Saturday, officials said.
According to police, the complainant lives in Gurugram and works as a software engineer in a logistics company.
At around 8:15 am on Thursday, she booked a cab through the Rapido app to go to work. Shortly after she boarded the vehicle, the driver allegedly unzipped his trousers, exposed himself and began masturbating in her presence while the cab was in motion, police said.
The woman recorded a video of the incident on her mobile phone and asked the driver to stop the vehicle. After she got out of the cab, the accused fled the spot, police said.
The woman informed the Police Control Room and shared the video with police personnel after they reached the spot.
An FIR was registered on her complaint and the investigation handed over to Inspector Suman, Station House Officer (SHO) of the women's police station at Sector 51, the officials said.
Using technical surveillance and the cab-booking details, police traced the accused and arrested him from the Bhondsi area within two hours of the incident, they added.
During questioning, the accused admitted that he worked as a cab driver on the Rapido platform and had picked up the complainant on Thursday morning, police said. Further investigation is underway.
