Himachal Pradesh has initiated the self-enumeration phase of Census 2027, prioritizing the participation of its citizens in this crucial national exercise. Governor Kavinder Gupta registered himself on the official portal, encouraging others to do the same to help shape effective development policies and welfare programs.

The early rollout in the state is particularly significant due to its snow-bound and tribal regions. These areas will be the first to undergo enumeration, slated from September 11 to September 30, well in advance of the national schedule set for February 2027.

In Shimla, during the campaign's inauguration at Lok Bhavan, Governor Gupta highlighted the census's foundational role in development planning. He urged residents to use the available online self-enumeration facility from June 1 to June 15, stressing the importance of accuracy in the information submitted.

The Governor underscored the census's role beyond just a governmental task, presenting it as a vital means of citizen involvement in the state's growth efforts. The operation in Himachal Pradesh is designed to complete data collection in remote, high-altitude regions before severe winter conditions limit accessibility.

This phase of self-enumeration allows residents to digitally submit household details, while the subsequent field operations, running from June 16 to July 15, will involve enumerators visiting households for data on residential structures and family particulars.

The proactive scheduling in Himachal's snow-bound areas aims to secure essential demographic and socio-economic insights, vital for future policy-making, resource distribution, and program implementation at state and national levels.
