Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has launched an ambitious green initiative, the Mission Five Million Trees, in Ahmedabad to coincide with World Environment Day. Undertaken by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, this massive tree plantation drive aims to significantly bolster the city’s green cover while elevating environmental preservation efforts citywide.
A significant aspect of this drive is the introduction of a Mobile Source Apportionment Laboratory, a high-tech initiative developed under the Smart Sensing and Digital Intelligence Project. This laboratory is designed to improve air quality monitoring and precisely identify pollution sources, a crucial step in addressing the city's air quality concerns.
To further cement these efforts, the Miyawaki-based Clong-On Forest Development Project was also inaugurated, reinforcing urban greening initiatives amidst rising urban populations and the Urban Heat Island Effect. Notably, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has laid down an impressive record of tree plantations over recent years, culminating in a target of planting 50 lakh trees this year. Public participation is key, with citizens encouraged to join through various initiatives and the AMC Seva Mobile Application.
