In a dramatic escalation of a legal and public interest battle over a contentious land deal, police have registered an FIR against advocate and ex-Deputy Advocate General Vinay Sharma. This follows a complaint by former Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Sanjay Gupta, who is at the center of the land transaction controversy involving the Chester Hills housing project in Solan district.
The legal saga began when Sharma filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) with the Himachal Pradesh High Court, alleging discrepancies and violations in the land deals, specifically referencing Section 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act. As a result, the court, led by the Chief Justice, has issued notices to the state government and other involved parties.
In response to the PIL, Gupta filed a complaint against Sharma, charging defamatory statements. Gupta defended the land deal, asserting it adhered to the All India Services (Conduct) Rules and was duly processed through legal financial channels before his tenure as Chief Secretary began. As both a police investigation and high court proceedings unfold, the case has captured widespread attention.
