Major Bhargav Kalita of the Kumaon Regiment's 50th Battalion, Rashtriya Rifles, has received the esteemed Shaurya Chakra, honoring his valor and leadership in counter-terrorism efforts. Recognized for his pivotal role since October 2022, Major Kalita successfully executed operations that neutralized three terrorists and captured four critical Over Ground Workers, cementing peace and security in the region.

On December 2, 2024, Major Kalita acted on short-notice intelligence to orchestrate a surgical ambush on a high-profile terrorist. Exhibiting tactical brilliance, he positioned his team for a decisive strike, employing surprise to corner the terrorist. Amidst chaotic close-range gunfire, Major Kalita displayed unwavering resolve, leading his team to block escape routes and keep the adversary pinned.

In a demonstration of unparalleled bravery and selflessness, Major Kalita approached the terrorist under heavy risk, ultimately engaging and neutralizing him in intense combat. The eliminated threat was a top-tier terrorist, implicated in seven civilian murders and numerous attacks on security forces.
