Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi in Delhi at a time when TMC is embroiled in internal conflicts and legal challenges. The meeting wasn't just a political courtesy; it coincided with a CID team visiting Banerjee's Kolkata residence regarding an alleged signature forgery case.
As the investigation unfolds, unrest mounts within TMC, marked by a significant faction of MLAs defying Banerjee's choice for Opposition Leader. A group is even threatening to break away to form a separate bloc, adding to the party’s turmoil in the aftermath of losing the West Bengal assembly polls.
The state's CID, led by a Deputy Inspector General, has formed a five-member Special Investigation Team to probe the forgery allegations. Abhishek Banerjee, appointed as party general secretary, has supplied documentation but remains under pressure as discrepancies in the meeting resolution book are examined.
