In a dramatic turn of events, a band of thieves attempted a brazen robbery on the Sarkar Express train, operating between Bapatla and Appikatla railway stations, during the midnight hours of June 13-14. According to local authorities, the incident saw passengers in the S3 and S6 coaches targeted by the alleged perpetrators.
The heist escalated when a female passenger bravely raised the alarm after thieves allegedly tried to snatch her gold chain. This prompt action by the passenger triggered an immediate response from on-board Government Railway Police (GRP) officers, who quickly mobilized to apprehend the suspects involved in the theft spree.
Despite the swift intervention of the GRP, the accused resisted arrest, reportedly hurling stones at the officers before managing a narrow escape. In response, the police fired warning shots in an effort to subdue the suspects. Subsequently, a comprehensive search operation has been initiated to locate the culprits, with two stolen bags already recovered by investigators.
