In a remarkable political pivot, twenty rebels from the Trinamool Congress, including MP Arup Chakraborty, merged with the Nationalist Citizens Party of India, lending their support to the National Democratic Alliance. Chakraborty vociferously criticized TMC's leadership, emphasizing collective management of political parties over family-run dynamics.

Accusing West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of succumbing to internal familial pressures, Chakraborty questioned the transparency and openness of the party's operations. He alleged a decline began when responsibilities were delegated to Abhishek Banerjee, citing political chatter about intra-family conflicts.

This internal dissent came to a head on Sunday, confirmed by Rebel MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar after a gathering with Speaker Om Birla. She asserted that more than two-thirds of the party followed this unprecedented shift, requesting a distinct parliamentary presence for the faction. The situation raises serious questions on the future dynamics of West Bengal politics.
