Salt pan workers have called for an increase in monsoon relief assistance, demanding that it be doubled from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000. Faced with growing challenges in making ends meet, the workers say the current relief falls short amid climbing costs of essential goods.
Kasi Ammal, a salt pan worker, underscored the harsh conditions they endure and the insufficiency of the existing government relief to support families during the monsoon when work is scarce. Ammal further called on the Tamil Nadu government to allocate house-site pattas to help workers build permanent homes.
Fellow worker Mariammal echoed these concerns, urging action from Chief Minister Vijay Thambi to address their plight. Both workers appealed for immediate measures from the government and political entities to address their core grievances, including increased financial assistance and land support.
