Sri Lanka's Christians targeted with multiple blasts during Easter celebrations

Multiple explosions hit two churches in Sri Lanka on Sunday as worshippers attended Easter services, officials and police said. At least 280 people are reported to be injured in the blasts and at least 50 people are feared to be dead, AFP has reported, quoting police sources. "Our people are engaged in evacuating the casualties," a source from police bomb squad said.

Three churches - St Anthony's Church in Colombo, St Sebastian's Church in the western coastal town of Negombo and another church in the eastern town of Batticaloa - were targeted, police said.

Three explosions were reported from the five-star hotels, the Shangrila, the Cinnamon Grand and the Kingsbury.

This attack comes just about a month after a brutal attack on mosques in Christchurch which left more than 50 people dead.

There were no immediate claims of responsibility.
